Hello Virginia LGCers!

We are working to contact our representatives to scheduling virtual meetings to discuss our concerns.

Firstly we have some good news: The VA Senate rejected a bill to require background checks for firearms rentals. We support efforts to efforts to de-stigmatize seeking mental health and this is not it. We believe there are other more effective and less intrusive ways to reduce suicide. However there are many other bad bills we need to fix. These include HB2276 which criminalizes the construction or possession of hobbyist-built craft firearms in a way that is overbroad and will not meaningfully improve public safety. This legislation would negatively impact right to repair.

Our goals include:

Make the case against further gun bans and other laws that will do nothing to reduce interpersonal violence while burdening lawful gun owners.
Tighten requirements for red-flag law petitions to they are not used in lieu of other police powers that have greater restrictions to prevent their abuse and increase penalties for making false statements to obtain a red flag order.
Promote evidence based suicide and violence-prevention programs.
Urge our representatives to repeal racist gun laws.
